Tonight, I met my roommates, bosses daughter. She was perfect. As soon as I saw her, she came up to me and gave me a hug. Her petite, child body was wrapped in my arms and I immediately felt a connection. She was beautiful. Long, light brown hair with straight across bangs and big brown eyes, I was looking into what I had always pictured my little girl to look like. She was packed full of laughter, excitement, honesty, and rambunctious; everything I picture my little girl to be like. She was glued at my hip the whole night. We talked about what our candy universe would look like and discussed the best way to make chocolate milk. We danced and sung to all the top 100 pop list. I braided her hair, played with her toys, and made sure she was eating her dinner. I was laughing with a 7 year old little girl who was the child I had always pictured being mine.
As we were sitting on the porch, with her in my lap, she grabs my hand turns to her dad and says, “daddy, we’re the same color! We have the same colored skin!” With that, she turned around and clung to me tightly. My heart sunk to the pit of my stomach. I understood what she meant.
